JAKARTA, March 30, 2011 located in The Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Research and Development Building on 4th floor, PT Krakatau Steel, PT Polowijo Gosari and PT Pupuk Kujang signed a memorandum of understanding with The Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Research.
The signing of this MoU is the first step commencement of steel slag technology development program, the utilization of horticulture technology and agriculture technology research for the welfare of farmers in order to support public private partnership and cost recovery.
Production target determination of 70.60 million tonnes GKG by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2011 is became the background of the needed of development in agriculture, which supported by balanced fertilization technology and new breakthroughs in agricultural land resources development. The Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Research and Development make breakthroughs in the fertilization technologies development. One of the establish effort is the cooperation with PT Krakatau Steel, PT Polowijo Gosari and PT Pupuk Kujang in the field of research and development of steel slag and fertilizer assessment for agricultural commodities in order to support agricultural development and increase the farmers income as well as the National Food Security Program.
Cooperation in Research and Development of steel slag with PT Krakatau Steel is done in order to utilize steel slag for agricultural fertilizer in order to support agricultural development and national food security program, and increase the competence of human resources through training activities associated with the use of steel slag for agriculture. In addition, the fertilizing assessment with PT Pupuk Kujang was done through collaboration in order to: (1) joint research in the field of fertilizer development for food, crops, and horticulture plantation, (2) the usage of technology research in agriculture, and (3) improved the competence of human resource.
President Director of PT Krakatau Steel, Ir. Fazwar Bujang in this opportunity said that with the problems of steel waste which had declared as B3, this innovation will be helpful as one of solution to the problem.
Chairman of The Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Research and Development, Dr. Haryono in remarks at the end of the event said that there were about 700,000 tons per year of steel waste that can be utilized in this cooperation. He also mentioned that hopefully the operational steps for the deepest conscience can provide an advance of agriculture in Indonesia.
